How to Use Stripes Print Mode in Digital HeatFX for Breathable Transfers

Mastering Stripes Print Mode: Create Lighter, More Breathable Custom Transfers

Large solid graphics and full-color photos can look stunning on custom t-shirts—but without negative space, traditional transfers often feel heavy, stiff, and less breathable after pressing.

That's where Stripes Print Mode in Print Optimizer software shines for Digital HeatFX white toner systems. It intelligently adds customizable stripes to your design, reducing ink buildup while maintaining vibrant colors and sharp details.

The result? Softer, more flexible transfers that customers love for all-day comfort—perfect for oversized photos, bold logos, or any solid-fill artwork.

Why Use Stripes Print Mode?

When utilizing the Print Optimizer software with your Digital HeatFX equipment, you have powerful tools to enhance the feel of your graphic.

The Digital HeatFX Stripes Print Mode is the #1 option when you are printing solid graphics or photographs that lack natural negative space.

👕 The "Sweat Patch" Problem: If you press a solid 8x10 photograph onto a garment, it forms a plastic-like shield. It feels heavy and traps heat. Adding stripes breaks up this layer, giving the transfer flexibility and breathability.

Understanding Frequency and Angle

You can adjust the stripes to any frequency or angle that you desire:

  • Frequency: A higher number adds more stripes (less negative space). A lower number yields more negative space (less ink).
  • Angle: Setting the angle to 90° creates vertical stripes; creates horizontal stripes.

⚙️ Recommended Print Optimizer Settings

We have performed extensive testing to find the "Sweet Spot" for both the DFX 8432 and DFX 9541 systems.

🖨️ For DFX 8432 Printers

  • Frequency: 22
  • Angle: 75
  • Dot Size: 190

🖨️ For DFX 9541 Printers

  • Frequency: 19.75
  • Angle: 75
  • Dot Size: 178

Global Settings (For Both Printers)

To ensure your edges remain crisp and colors pop, apply these adjustments:

  • Choke: Set to 5.
  • Saturation: If colors look dull after adding stripes, increase Saturation by +5. (Example: If your standard saturation is 2, bump it to 7. Do not go higher than a +5 increase.)

🔥 Heat Press Settings: The "Marrying" Step

Success with stripes relies on a precise marry step. Note that all recommendations were tested on the Hotronix Fusion heat press (the gold standard for Digital HeatFX).

Note: If you use a different press, you may need to perform internal testing to match these results.

For the DFX 9541 System:

  • Temperature: 270°F
  • Time: 100 seconds
  • Pressure: 2–4 (Light to Medium)

For the DFX 8432 System:

  • Temperature: 310°F
  • Time: 75 seconds
  • Pressure: 2–4 (Light to Medium)

⚠️ Application Tip: When performing the final transfer press onto the substrate (the shirt), keep the pressure between 2–4, just like the marry step. Refer to your EZ Peel instructions for the final press time/temp.
